Homework: You may keep your child’s writing homework at home to
work on for the next three weeks. This assignment is due on Friday, January 29th.
The math packet and reading log are due on Friday. Please return it in
your Yellow Reading Log/Math Homework Folder. Please make sure you sign
your
child’s reading log.
Language Arts: We are reviewing how to make words past tense by adding
–ed. We discussed the different sounds used to make the words past tense. We will work on magic e words. We will
continue to read Fables and discuss the character traits in the story. Students
will revisit opinion writing. We will review what an opinion is and how to make
a fact into an opinion and an opinion into a fact. For example, I lived in a two
story house is a fact. Two story
houses are the best kind of house to live is an opinion. The students will
write an opinion about the best gift they have received.
Mathematics: We will be reviewing chapter 6 and practice problem
solving by going through the following steps: Make sure we understand the
problem, Represent the problem with pictures and labels, Solve, Look back and
check. We will practice balancing equations.
Social Studies: We will read and discuss Martin Luther King, Jr. in our
Scholastic News. We will use a map of North America to identify our countries
boundaries.
Ways you can help at home: Look for ed
words and magic e words as you are
reading at home. Discuss the main character in the story you are reading. How
would you describe this character? Think about the problem solving steps in
math. Have your child identify each step as he or she solves the homework word
problems. Make up and solve multiplication word problems that involve a 2, 5,
or 10. Make arrays showing these word problems. Identify numbers as even or
odd. Try having your child balance
equations. For example 6+8= 10+ ____.

focus on multiplying by 5s and 10s. We will investigate what makes numbers even

Ways you can help at home: Review some moments your child could write about for our
next personal narrative. Practice talking through the story together. Look
through the writing homework. This is suppose to take the month to complete.
